This quiet mountain village is home to a warm, resilient people whose main source of livelihood is agriculture. Women in Senale once had to hike up and down dangerous trails to gather water for their families, and children went to school in poorly lit stick huts.
Residents of this mountainous town located in the arid Tigray region faced a daily struggle for clean water. With no water sources in the village, women and girls face a 45-minute walk each way to collect dirty water that is contaminated with animal waste.
Surrounded by gorgeous, rocky landscape, the Villages of AdiKeyh are home to more than 22,000 people. In this farming community, villagers fight the dusty, dry climate to maintain crops including tomatoes, cabbage, apples and avocados.
