This Southern Ethiopian village has small markets and mud hut “coffee shops” lining its dusty roads. Its location in a lowland area means that the community is especially susceptible to waterborne diseases. While there is great need in the village, the people of Tercha are full of hope.

Why We Chose Tercha
When we arrived in Tercha, we found an area that has been growing steadily without the infrastructure needed to support such a population increase. Unclean drinking water, poorly equipped medical facilities and dilapidated schools were daily problems facing the community.
The nearest hospital, which serves more than half a million people from the surrounding areas, had no clean water. It was clear that Tercha needed help to break its cycle of poverty. See our progress.
Life in Tercha
Deep in the lush lowlands of Southern Ethiopia lies the isolated village of Tercha. Though deeply impoverished, the community is abuzz with activity. Children gather for impromptu soccer matches, donkeys haul water and materials from place to place, and villagers celebrate special occasions with singing and dancing.
Dusty dirt roads, livestock and small markets are found throughout the village, which has grown to more than 15,000 inhabitants in just 10 years.
