Through our campaign we hope to raise funds to help Glimmer of Hope in their initiative to bring clean water to Ethiopia. We cannot possibly repay the people of Ethiopia for the gift they have bestowed upon our family. We adopted our son, Atticus Lee Naol, when he was 7 months old. Atticus had been found in the village of Robe, in Southern Ethiopia, when he was just two months old. He was extremely malnourished, was diagnosed with sepsis and was near death. The woman who found our son brought him to the police station, who in turn, brought him to a nearby orphanage. The nannies at the orphanage nursed our son back to health. In the first pictures we saw of the baby who was to be our son, he was smiling and laughing, despite all the hardships he had endured in the four short months of his life. Since Atticus became a member of our family, he has flourished. At first, he was a tiny, underweight, underdeveloped little guy. Now 3, he is my gentle giant. He towers over kids his own age. He is the sweetest, happiest boy I have ever met. He brings us endless joy. we cannot imagine our lives without him. So how can we repay the country of Ethiopia for giving us the privilege and great honor of being Atticus' parents? It breaks my heart to think of Atticus' birth family who lived in such desperation that the best option they had for their son was one unthinkable to most of us. But maybe, through A Glimmer of Hope, another family in Ethiopia will not have to make such heartbreaking choice.
