Internships

Glimmer interns are critical to our movement. Our staff is driven by the cause to help women and children living in extreme poverty in Ethiopia. We’re looking for energetic, hard working interns to join our close-knit team. If you’re interested in using your skills to help fight poverty, we want to hear from you. Hours and schedule flexible.

Professional Volunteers

Glimmer welcomes professionals who would like to use their experience and skills to join our movement to help women and children in Ethiopia escape extreme poverty. Currently we are looking for professionals with the following expertise:

Communications Associate

A Glimmer of Hope is seeking a communications associate to lead and support various communications and marketing projects. As part of the communications team, this position will be responsible for drafting engaging materials and messages, and creatively demonstrating the impact of our projects in Ethiopia. This position is based in Austin, Tex., with possibility of travel to Ethiopia.

Main responsibilities:

  • Write and develop a range of online and print materials to support fundraising efforts and communications with Glimmer’s supporters. Translate complicated project details into engaging content for various audiences.   
  • Participate in and support strategy development to guide the organization’s communications and marketing.
  • Play a strong role in supporting events and fundraising campaigns.
  • Manage projects, such as social media strategy and posting, development of story updates from the field, creation of fundraising materials, and more.
  • Organize and coordinate processes and systems, photo libraries, and programmatic information to support communications.

Qualifications:

  • At least three to five years experience in communications, donor relations and/or client service, and a minimum of five years professional experience.
  • Proven experience writing compelling materials and managing projects.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Ethiopia.

Communications Intern

Glimmer is looking for a Communications Intern who will assist in a variety of communications and marketing projects and help organize our media content libraries. You will be asked to contribute and add to ongoing team projects that focus on efficient communication with Glimmer’s supporters.

Programs Intern

The Integrated Community Development (ICD) team manages the construction of Glimmer’s clustered health, microfinance, education and microfinance projects through our local implementing partners in Ethiopia. We are looking for a Master’s level ICD Programs Intern who is interested in international development or international affairs to work in our Austin, Texas office for Summer 2014. You will assist in data organization and analysis and provide support for our ICD team activities.

position:

  • Maintain program/project records in our project management database,
  • Review project completion documents and photos for accuracy,
  • Review proposals and reports from our construction partners in Ethiopia,
  • Help prepare proposals and reports for donors,
  • Communicate with Addis Ababa, Ethiopia office on program tasks,
  • Conduct research and other activities as needed.

Video Editor Intern

Are you interested in maturing as a video editor, strengthening your portfolio and using your storytelling skills to help change the world? Glimmer is looking for a Video Editor Intern who will assist in editing content for a variety of short videos. There may also be opportunities to shoot short videos. You’ll focus on telling stories through video that engage and educate Glimmer’s supporters.

position:

  • Work with our team to storyboard and create stories that change the lives of thousands in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Edit video content, including footage and music from Ethiopia
  • Shoot footage of interviews and activities in the Austin office
  • We’re seeking a candidate who is:
    • handy with footage from multiple formats, including traditional video cameras, DSLRs and iPhones
    • good at piecing together stories from collections of clips
  • Basic color correction, photo editing and graphic design skills are a plus
